Lucio
Club – Bayer Leverkusen (2001-02)
Lucio came into the spotlight during the 2001-02 football season, as central defender for Bayer Leverkusen. He helped Leverkusen finish second in the league and they were also runners up in the German cup. He was most notably remembered that season for his top class performances helping Leverkusen to the champions league final. The final was an unfortunate affair for both Lucio and Leverkusen as they lost to Real Madrid. Success did fall his way few months later as he won the world cup of 2002 with Brazil. He later on moved to Bayern Munich and now he has established himself as one of the best defenders to have ever played in the Bundesliga. He won the German league and cup double with Bayern Munich.

 

Michael Ballack
Club – Bayer Leverkusen (2001-02)
Ballack began his playing career with Chemnitz; however he made his German league debut with Kaiserslautern. He came into the fore of world football, with his stunning performances for Bayer Leverkusen during the 2001-02 champions league campaign. He was arguably the best player of the competition and helped them reach the final, however his heroic display was not enough to win them the lucrative European Trophy. He was in dazzling form during the 2002 world cup finals which ultimately earned him a transfer to Bayern Munich. Over there he established himself as one of the best football players in the world. In the summer of 2006 he moved to English champions, Chelsea.
